If you're into food, Ponsonby will keep you busy with its lineup of restaurants, cafes and wine bars that lean effortlessly cool. Parnell is all charm and galleries, and Newmarket is where your shopping budget quietly disappears. Don't skip the west coast either. Black-sand beaches, wild surf and sunset spots that do all the talking. Need an extra day? Head north to Matakana for market mornings and a change of pace.
