Wellington. Windy, weird and absolutely worth it. 
Wellington doesn't try to be cool - it just is. It's the kind of place where second-hand stores sit next to designer boutiques, everyone has a favourite coffee spot, and the weather keeps you humble. You'll lose time in bookstores, find the best meal down an alleyway, and probably get into a very passionate chat about bagels with a stranger. 

Things to do in Wellington start at the top. Ride the bright red Wellington Cable Car to the hilltop for harbour views, or walk up Mt Victoria for a 360-degree payoff. Te Papa mixes taonga, storytelling and modern culture into a museum experience you'll actually remember, while the Wētā Workshop tour proves just how much movie magic lives in this city. 

Cuba Street is where the food scene flexes, from iconic brunch spots to cocktails that come with smoke, sparks or a side of sass. And as the Craft Beer Capital of New Zealand, the tap selection here is borderline overwhelming (in the best way). 

Wellington is walkable, packed with character and always doing something interesting. Bring a jacket, follow your nose, and trust the locals, they'll never steer you wrong.
